# Choose an AI model for an agent

## When to choose a model

An agent needs an available model before it can be ready to work. You can
review model choices while creating an agent or from the model control in the
agent configuration flow. If the panel shows **Open AI Models**, select it to
review the models available to your workspace.

The model page is a selection experience, not a place to configure private
infrastructure. Choose from the options the panel makes available to your
workspace and follow any entitlement or usage notice shown there.

## Review the available options

Use the model page to:

- Search the available model list;
- Review a recommended option when the panel provides one;
- Open a model’s details to compare its visible capabilities and limitations;
- Notice when a model is restricted by your current plan or workspace access;
 and
- Review the usage or credit multiplier shown by the panel before choosing.

Availability can change as the workspace plan, access, or product offering
changes. A multiplier is an indicator for relative usage accounting; it is not
by itself a promise of a fixed price or a guarantee of a particular response.

Model availability, recommendations, and plan restrictions are workspace-dependent. The current model list and the message shown by the panel are the source of truth.

## Apply a model to an agent

1. Open **My Agents** and choose the agent.
2. Open its configuration or model selection control.
3. Choose an available model and review the visible details.
4. Save the draft, then review the pending change before publishing.
5. Recheck [Agent readiness](/en/resources/docs/review-agent-readiness) before
 activating the agent.

Choosing a model changes the agent configuration. It does not automatically
activate a paused agent, publish other edits, or change the model of another
agent.

If the model is unavailable, the panel may identify a missing plan entitlement,
an incomplete setup, or a temporary availability issue. Resolve the message it
shows, then return to the model selection page. Do not assume that a model
visible in general product information is enabled for every workspace.

## Keep the choice aligned with the agent

Choose a model after the workflow and business context are clear. Then review
the model together with the agent’s [knowledge](/en/resources/docs/manage-agent-knowledge),
abilities, governance, channels, and readiness state. A model choice cannot
replace missing customer information, an unconnected channel, or a required
approval.

For the complete lifecycle, see [Configure an AI agent](/en/resources/docs/configure-an-ai-agent)
and [Publish and activate an agent](/en/resources/docs/publish-and-activate-an-agent).
