Blocked days and calendar colors
Understand how the Interlinked Calendar uses red and yellow color indicators for blocked availability — and how the interactive day drawer lets you view, edit, and manage exceptions directly from the calendar.
Visual indicators on the calendar
The Calendar uses color to communicate availability at a glance. When a day is affected by a booking exception, it is visually marked so you can immediately see which days have restricted availability.
Fully blocked days — Red
A day marked in red is completely blocked. No appointments can be booked at any time on that day.
A red indicator means that an exception with Block entire day enabled is active for that date. The entire day — from the first business hour to the last — is unavailable for scheduling.

Partially blocked days — Yellow
A day marked in yellow has a partial block. Some hours are blocked by an exception, but other hours remain available for appointments.
A yellow indicator means that an exception with specific override hours is active for that date. For example, if the exception blocks 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, the rest of the day’s business hours remain open.

Color behavior across views
The red and yellow indicators appear in all three calendar views:
| View | How blocked days appear |
|---|---|
| Month | The date cell is highlighted in red or yellow |
| Week | The column for that day shows the color indicator |
| Day | The blocked time ranges are highlighted within the timeline |
This consistent color behavior makes it easy to spot availability restrictions regardless of which view you are using.
The day drawer
When you click on a day that is marked in red or yellow, a right-side panel (drawer) opens with detailed information and controls for that day.
What the drawer shows
The drawer displays:
- The selected date — The specific date you clicked on
- Regular business hours — Your configured business hours for that day of the week
- Appointment details — Any appointments already booked on that day, if they exist
- Exception details — Information about the exception affecting that day
- Management controls — Actions you can take to modify the block
- Open day view — A button to open the full day view for more space and detail
Note
The drawer is a quick-access tool for reviewing and adjusting blocks without leaving the calendar. For comprehensive exception management including filtering and bulk actions, use the Exceptions page.
Drawer behavior for fully blocked days (red)
When you click on a red (fully blocked) day, the drawer opens with these available actions:
Remove the block
You can remove the exception entirely, making the day available for appointments again. This is useful when a planned closure is cancelled and you want to reopen the day.
Edit to partial block
Instead of removing the block completely, you can convert it to a partial-day block. This changes the exception from a full-day block to specific blocked hours, opening up the rest of the day for appointments.
For example, if an entire day was blocked for a team event that was shortened to the morning only, you could edit the block to cover just 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, making the afternoon available.

Drawer behavior for partially blocked days (yellow)
When you click on a yellow (partially blocked) day, the drawer opens with different actions:
Block the full day
If the partial block is not enough and you need to close the entire day, you can upgrade the exception to a full-day block. This converts the yellow partial block into a red full-day block.
Edit the override hours
You can modify the specific hours that are blocked. If the original exception blocked 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM and you need to extend it to 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM, you can adjust the time range directly from the drawer.
View effective hours
The drawer shows the effective hours for the partially blocked day. Effective hours are the remaining available hours after the blocked time is subtracted from the regular business hours.
For example:
| Component | Hours |
|---|---|
| Regular business hours | 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM |
| Exception blocks | 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM |
| Effective hours | 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM |
This makes it clear at a glance exactly when appointments can still be booked.
View exception details
The drawer also shows the details of the exception affecting that day:
- The exception type (single day, date range, or recurring)
- The reason, if one was provided
- The time range being blocked

Tip
The distinction between red and yellow days is important for team communication. Red means "completely closed" while yellow means "partially available." If you manage a team, make sure everyone understands that yellow days still have bookable slots.
